German Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany has urged GNA Prime Minister Fayez al-Sarraj of Libya to rapidly sign a ceasefire agreement.

The two talked just days after Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA), visited Merkel in Berlin.

“They discussed the present political and military situation,” a spokesperson said. “The chancellor asserted, as she did on Tuesday in her talks with Haftar, the significance of signing the ceasefire that was just lately agreed in Geneva by representatives of the warring factions.”
