On Thursday, the Speaker of the eastern Libyan parliament, Ageela Saleh, landed in Moscow to discuss recent developments in Libya with Russian officials.

Fathi Al-Meremi, Saleh’s advisor, said that the Speaker was accompanied by Foreign Minister Abdel-Hadi Al-Hwaij during the visit.

The visit aimed at covering economic, diplomatic and military issues related to Libya.

Al-Meremi stressed that peace initiatives, including the Cairo Declaration and the Berlin Conference, were among the key topics under discussion.

“Saleh will also discuss the ‘Turkish aggression’ against Libya,” Al-Meremi stated, highlighting the importance of Russia’s role as a global superpower and the need to reach a ceasefire.

Notably, Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias met Saleh on Wednesday during a visit to Libya.

He condemned the “Turkish intervention in the war-torn state”.

Dendias stated that the departure of foreign powers, especially Turkey, was the solution to the ongoing conflict.

Saleh said last month that the Libyan people will request military intervention by Egypt should armed militias attack the strategic city of Sirte.
