Libyan Parliament Speaker Ageela Saleh has stated that the Government of National Accord (GNA), headed by Fayez Al-Sarraj was still illegitimate as did not obtain the confidence of the House of Representative (HoR) and was rejected twice.

This comes during Saleh’s official visit to Moscow, where he met with the head of the Federal Council of Russia Valentina Matviyenko.

The Speaker claimed that the GNA’s Presidential Council was unable to fulfill the obligations stipulated in the Skhirat political agreement, adding that its mandate has since expired per the agreement.

Saleh claimed that the GNA has used extremist militias to defend it from the HoR’s Libyan National Army (LNA).

The current fighting in Libya was due to the international community’s recognition of the unelected GNA.

He emphasized that there was no military solution to the Libyan crisis and that Russia was an acceptable mediator for resolving the current dispute.
