Mohamed Ben Ayad, Chairman of the Libyan Telecommunications Holding Company, met with Jeremy Brent, the acting U.S. Ambassador to Libya, to explore avenues of cooperation between the United States and Libya in the information and communications technology sector.
According to a tweet from the U.S. Embassy’s X account on Tuesday, Brent stated that the meeting with Ben Ayad focused on the potential for a partnership that would benefit both countries in this sector.
Additionally, Brent and Keith Kirkham, a senior official from the U.S. Department of Commerce, met with members of the American Chamber of Commerce in Tripoli yesterday. They discussed ways to develop trade relations between Libya and the United States.
Brent highlighted the substantial contributions that the American private sector can offer to Libya, reaffirming his commitment to strengthening the trade relations between the two nations.
Days ago, Brent and Regional Senior Commercial Advisor Keith Kirkham met with Libya’s Minister of Economy, Mohamed Al-Hwaij.
During the meeting, both sides discussed economic diversification goals and the potential role of U.S. companies in supporting Libya’s economic aspirations.
The talks centered around Libya’s objectives to diversify its economy beyond oil and gas, an initiative deemed crucial for the country’s long-term economic stability and growth. Brent and Kirkham expressed their pleasure in engaging with Minister Al-Hwaij, emphasizing the potential contributions of U.S. businesses to Libya’s economic development.
