On Friday, Turkish Minister of Defense Hulusi Akar arrived in Tripoli to discuss the continuation agreements between both countries.
According to ‘Anadolu Agency’, head of General Staff Yasir Guler accompanied Akar to discuss activities that were carried out in accordance with the security and military cooperation MoU signed with the Libyan Government of National Accord (GNA).
A military reception was held for the Turkish Minister at Tripoli’s Maetiga International Airport. It was attended by the Libyan Deputy Minister of Defense, Salah Al-Din Al-Namroush, Chief of the General Staff, Mohammed Al-Mahdi, Commander of the Navy, Abdel-Hakim Abu Hali, the Turkish Ambassador to Libya, and a number of Turkish and Libyan officials.
After the reception, Akar and his accompanying delegation went to the headquarters of the ‘Consultative Command for Defense Security Cooperation and Training’, which was established within the framework of the agreement signed between the two countries.
In December 2019, Turkey and the GNA signed two MoUs on defence, maritime borders, and gas drilling in the Mediterranean.
The maritime border agreement was rejected by several countries, including Egypt, Greece, Cyprus and the UAE. They described it as an illegal act that violated the sovereignty of other Mediterranean states.
