On Monday, the Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives, Ageela Saleh, issued a directive to intensify the search for the abducted MP Ibrahim Al-Drissi. The order was sent to the Parliament’s Defense and National Security Committee, the Internal Affairs Committee, the Minister of Interior, and the Head of the Internal Security Agency appointed by the House of Representatives.
Ibrahim Al-Drissi disappeared earlier this month after attending a ceremony in Benghazi commemorating the anniversary of the “Al Karama “Dignity “military Operation,” according to MP Abdel-Moneim Al-Arfi.
In his message to the concerned authorities, Ageela Saleh stressed the need to take all necessary measures, urging security agencies to intensify their efforts and report back with the investigation results. The directive conveyed through a statement by House spokesperson Abdullah Blehig, highlighted the urgency of continuing the search until Al-Drissi is found.
In a related development, Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan National Army (LNA) Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar has called on security forces to intensify their efforts to locate and return the kidnapped MP Ibrahim Al-Drissi.
The incident has drawn international attention, with the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) urging Libyan authorities to locate and secure the immediate release of Ibrahim Al-Drissi.
UNSMIL has demanded a thorough investigation into the circumstances of his disappearance and for those responsible to be held accountable according to the law. Similarly, European Union missions in Libya have called for his immediate release and a transparent investigation into cases of enforced disappearances.
Libya remains a nation grappling with political instability and security challenges. The disappearance of MP Ibrahim Al-Drissi underscores the ongoing risks faced by public figures in the country. Al-Drissi went missing after participating in a public event in Benghazi, a city that has seen significant conflict and remains a focal point of political tension.
