On Saturday, members of the Libyan Parliamentary Dialogue Committee affirmed the importance of resuming a political dialogue under the auspices of the United Nations, calling on the UN Secretary-General to expedite the appointment of a special envoy for the UN mission in Libya, who is independent and capable of putting an end to the Libyan crisis.

These remarks came in a statement issued by the parliamentary committee members.

They reiterated their rejection of any kind of foreign interference in Libya’s internal affairs, urging parties to the conflict to abide by the resolutions of the Berlin Conference, which was held within the framework of the Skhirat Political Agreement signed in Morocco.

The Libyan MPs said that the time has come to resume the political dialogue under the auspices of the United Nations in a constructive and meaningful dialogue as quickly as possible.” .

Libya has been in turmoil since 2011, when a civil war toppled and killed longtime ruler Moammar Gadhafi.
