This tragic case highlights the migrants and travelers who risk their lives to cross difficult and risky roads in search of better opportunities. Such journeys are fraught with risks, and without adequate support or resources, they can end in tragedy.
In August 2022, Libyan and Sudanese security joint forces found 20 bodies on the borders of the North Darfur region and Libya, and rescued other eight surviving illegal migrants, the Sudanese News Agency (SUNA) reported on Friday.
Colonel Ali Said, commander of the Sudanese-Libyan Joint Forces, told SUNA that the joint force is securing the borders between Sudan and Libya and confronting illegal migration and smuggling. The migrants were traveling to Libya in two vehicles, the SUNA added.
Libya is one of the most important transit areas for migrants on their way to Europe, as they try to reach the Mediterranean from their countries of origin in the Horn of Africa via Libya, which has been destabilized by civil wars for several years. From there, the migrants attempt the perilous journey towards Europe in small boats.
