The Libyan National Oil Corporation (NOC) has announced an ambitious plan to drill 121 new wells in 2024 to explore and exploit the country’s rich natural oil and gas resources.
In a statement released today, the NOC outlined its strategy to boost oil production through the development of new wells and the maintenance of existing infrastructure. The plan includes the maintenance of approximately 1,335 wells to ensure sustainable oil production, although the specific locations and timelines for these projects have not yet been disclosed.
The NOC aims to exceed crude oil production of 1.5 million barrels per day by the end of 2025, with a goal of reaching 2 million barrels per day within three years. This ambitious target underscores Libya’s commitment to enhancing its oil output and solidifying its position as a key player in the global energy market.
“Oil production is the primary source of income for Libya, accounting for about 90% of the country’s economic activity,” the NOC stated. Currently, Libya’s oil production stands at approximately 1.220 million barrels per day.
The announcement comes as part of a broader effort by the Libyan government to stabilize and grow its economy through increased investment in the oil and gas sector. The NOC’s plans are expected to play a crucial role in boosting national revenue and supporting economic recovery in the coming years.
Industry experts have welcomed the NOC’s announcement, noting that increased oil production could significantly enhance Libya’s economic stability. However, they also caution that the success of these plans will depend on the country’s ability to maintain security and political stability.
As Libya looks to the future, the NOC’s ambitious drilling and maintenance plans represent a significant step towards revitalizing the nation’s oil industry and securing long-term economic growth.
