Airstrikes Target Al-Wotya Airbase in Western Libya

An unknown number of aircrafts from an unidentified source bombed Al-Wotya airbase late on Saturday night. The strategic airbase is located west of the Libyan capital, Tripoli, which is controlled by the Government of National Accord (GNA) forces, an army source told “Anadolu” news agency.

The source, preferring to not be named, said that “Al-Wotya base was bombed yesterday by unknown warplanes, after hearing aircrafts in the mountainous areas surrounding the base.”

“The bombing did not result in casualties, but rather targeted some of the facilities on the base, which were recently brought in to reinforce Al-Wotya, including an air defense system,” the source added, pointing out that this is the first time for the base to be bombed since the GNA forces took control of it on May 18.

As of 11.40 GMT, neither the GNA nor the Libyan National Army have commented on the news.
