Libya’s Deputy Prime Minister and Acting Health Minister, Ramadan Abu Janah, inaugurated the 16th Libya International Healthcare Forum and Exhibition on Monday at the Tripoli International Fairgrounds.
In his opening speech, the Health Minister highlighted the ministry’s commitment to mobilise all resources for systematic and practical plans. These plans begin with training national cadres and aim to provide comprehensive healthcare.
The Minister of Health emphasised that a key priority for the ministry in the coming phase is to support investment in national medical and nursing staff. He also stressed the importance of encouraging local production of medicines, medical supplies, and laboratory chemicals, and regulating imports according to needs and existing laws to achieve self-sufficiency.
Abu Janah expressed the ministry’s readiness to open wide avenues for cooperation with effective partners to invest in technology and innovation. This includes developing emerging technologies to improve the quality and efficiency of healthcare services. Furthermore, investment in the pharmaceutical and biotech industries, hospital and clinic construction and operation, new technologies, and medical education and training is crucial to enhancing the workforce by boosting knowledge and supporting medical education and training programs.
For his part, Minister of Economy and Trade Mohamed Al-Hwaij emphasised the significance of healthcare and its impact on individuals and society, noting that it is a pillar of economic development.
The Minister of Economy explained that the purpose of the Libya International Healthcare Forum and Exhibition is to provide tools, means, and consultations to enhance physical and mental health, aiming for social well-being within the available capabilities. He noted that investing in healthcare is an investment in the national economy.
The Libya International Healthcare Forum and Exhibition, supported by the Ministries of Health and Economy and the General Exhibitions Authority, runs from 24-27 June 2024. The forum offers specialists and interested parties the opportunity to engage with top consultants, specialists, doctors, and leading companies in various national and international health sectors, showcasing the latest medical advancements.
The forum’s scientific programme covers over 21 medical fields with local and international expertise, including interactive workshops, scientific lectures, discussion panels, and free clinics for citizens in various medical specialties.
