On Tuesday, the Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan National Army (LNA), Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, welcomed Greek Ambassador Nikolaos Garilidis, along with the Consul General and Military Attaché of the Greek Embassy, at the General Command headquarters in Benghazi.

Field Marshal Haftar praised the Greek delegation, highlighting the strong and developing relations between Libya and Greece. He emphasized the importance of fostering good neighborly relations and deepening the friendship between the two countries. Haftar also expressed gratitude to Greece for its swift response in sending relief equipment and rescue teams to Derna following the devastation caused by Hurricane Daniel.

Ambassador Garilidis echoed these sentiments, stressing the importance of enhancing and expanding Libyan-Greek relations in trade, economy, and culture to serve mutual interests. He reaffirmed Greece’s support for the efforts of the United Nations Mission in advancing the political process towards holding presidential and parliamentary elections in Libya.

Libya and Greece have a long history of cooperation and mutual interests. The recent visit by the Greek delegation underscores the commitment of both nations to further strengthen their bilateral ties. Greece’s prompt humanitarian response to Hurricane Daniel in Derna has significantly reinforced the friendship between the two countries.

Libya’s strategic location in the Mediterranean makes it a key partner for Greece, especially in maritime security, energy, and trade routes. Collaboration between Libya and Greece is vital for regional stability and economic growth. Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar’s leadership in the Libyan National Army is crucial in the country’s efforts to achieve political stability and security. Support from international allies like Greece is essential, particularly in facilitating UN-led initiatives aimed at conducting national elections.

Greece’s diplomatic engagement in Libya highlights its commitment to stability in the Mediterranean region. The involvement of Greek officials in discussions with Libyan leaders underscores the international community’s vested interest in Libya’s stabilization and the broader geopolitical stakes.
