On Monday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Libyan Government of National Unity (GNU) announced preparations for the Mediterranean Migration Forum (TMMF), scheduled to take place in Tripoli on July 17, 2024.
The recent preparatory meeting was chaired by Abdulrahman Al-Hadi Khomada, Director of the European Affairs Department, and included ambassadors from various European, Arab, and African countries accredited in Libya. These countries are expected to participate in the upcoming forum.
Discussions during the meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs focused on the technical details and the final document to be issued by the forum.
The Mediterranean Migration Forum aims to address the complex issues of migration across the Mediterranean region. The event will gather policymakers, experts, and stakeholders from multiple countries to discuss strategies and solutions for managing migration flows, enhancing cooperation, and ensuring the rights and safety of migrants.
Libya has long been a key transit point for migrants attempting to reach Europe via the Mediterranean. The country’s strategic location makes it a crucial player in regional migration dynamics. Over the years, Libya has faced significant challenges related to migration, including human trafficking, the safety of migrants, and the need for humanitarian assistance.
The upcoming forum is part of these efforts, aiming to foster dialogue and cooperation among Mediterranean countries to tackle migration issues effectively.
The preparatory meeting emphasized the importance of technical arrangements to ensure the forum’s success. Participants discussed logistics, security measures, and the structure of the final document that will encapsulate the forum’s outcomes and recommendations.
The final document is expected to outline actionable steps for improving migration management, enhancing international cooperation, and protecting the rights of migrants. It will serve as a roadmap for future initiatives and collaborations among the participating countries.
The involvement of ambassadors from European, Arab, and African countries highlights the forum’s international significance. By bringing together diverse perspectives and expertise, the forum aims to create comprehensive and sustainable solutions to migration challenges in the Mediterranean region.
