Mohamed Mazoughi has declared his intention to run for the position of Prime Minister in the new government. In a Facebook post, Mazoughi described this move as part of his “national project,” initiated after the presidential elections were halted due to force majeure.
Mazoughi expressed his ambition to help bring about a day that has become a demand for all Libyans. However, he emphasized that his candidacy would only be officially announced once the regulations and mechanisms for the process, ensuring transparency and fairness, are released.
Commenting on the final statement of the meeting between members of the House of Representatives and the High Council of State in Cairo, Mazoughi noted the positive desire to form a unified government. He stated that such a development is extremely encouraging and could aid in achieving stability and national unity in Libya.
Mazoughi also declared his solidarity with all political parties and urged continued dialogue and constructive cooperation to resolve the current political deadlock.
Notably, Mazoughi was the candidate of the High Council of State for the presidential elections planned for December 24, 2021.
Born in Tripoli in 1973, Mazoughi comes from a middle-class family and holds a university degree in production and planning engineering. He started his career in the private educational sector, founding and presiding over the Afek University for Humanities and Applied Sciences. He also established and led several private companies in various fields, including metal industries, technical and engineering industries, international trade, and medical tourism.
Throughout his professional life, Mazoughi launched numerous projects, such as the “Made in Libya” initiative for manufacturing heavy equipment and exporting it, and the largest physical therapy station in the country. He also participated in several economic forums in European countries and trade exhibitions in multiple nations.
Earlier this week, Libyan parliament and the High Council of Stated agreed on forming a new “unified” government. This announcement made after a meeting held in Egyptian capital, Cairo.
