The Governor of the Central Bank of Libya, Al-Siddiq Al-Kabir, met with the Italian Ambassador, Gianluca Alberini, in Tripoli. The meeting aimed to explore and enhance the cooperation between Libya and Italy in various banking sectors, particularly focusing on combating money laundering and terrorism financing.

During the discussions, both parties emphasized the importance of addressing the risks associated with these illicit activities.

They acknowledged that these issues pose significant threats not only to the banking system but also to the broader economic stability and security of both countries.

Al-Kabir highlighted the Central Bank of Libya’s ongoing efforts to implement more stringent measures to detect and prevent money laundering and terrorism financing.

He pointed out that international cooperation is crucial in this regard, as these crimes often have cross-border implications. The Governor expressed his commitment to working closely with international partners to strengthen Libya’s financial regulatory framework.

Ambassador Alberini, on his part, reiterated Italy’s support for Libya’s efforts in this area. He underscored the shared interest in maintaining a secure and transparent banking environment.

Alberini suggested that the collaboration could extend to various training and capacity-building initiatives, leveraging the expertise of the Bank of Italy.

He noted that Italy has extensive experience in dealing with financial crimes and could provide valuable insights and assistance to Libyan authorities.

The meeting also touched upon the broader economic relations between Libya and Italy.
