The Mayor of Kufra, Masoud Abdullah, announced that the city is receiving approximately 1,500 Sudanese refugees daily. He noted that the number of displaced Sudanese families has reached around 10,000.
In a television interview, Abdullah highlighted the deteriorating health conditions in Kufra. Many diseases have emerged among the refugees due to the harsh environmental and humanitarian conditions.
Abdullah emphasized the urgent need for support, particularly in the healthcare sector. However, he lamented the very weak response from international and local authorities.
Ismail Al-Aida, Director of Kufra Teaching Hospital, stated that only a small portion of the aid promised by international organizations has been delivered. The city has seen a significant increase in refugee numbers over the past month.
Al-Aida mentioned in an interview with Al-Ahrar that Kufra is not equipped to handle the large influx of refugees, which now exceeds the city’s population. The hospital has conducted medical examinations on around 50,000 refugees, including those with serious diseases such as AIDS, hepatitis, and tuberculosis.
The hospital director also noted that the security chamber is working to facilitate the transfer of refugees to northern cities. This effort aims to reduce the number of refugees in Kufra after registering them and providing free medical tests.
