UK Ambassador: All Foreign Military Intervention in Libya Must Stop

July 11, 2020

“It is time to end all forms of foreign armed intervention in Libya by the countries that participated in the Berlin conference,” British Ambassador to Libya Nicholas Hobton said in a statement on Friday.

Hobton added that the parties involved in the Libyan crisis should stop sending weapons and violating the arms embargo imposed by the UN Security Council.

He considered that the current atmosphere needs to calm down and that the military escalation must stop immediately.

The ambassador stressed the negotiations should be pushed forward and lead to a return of political dialogue as well as military 5+5 talks to achieve a political settlement.

Since the meeting between world leaders in Berlin took place in January 2020 to draw up a Libyan peace plan, both sides in the civil war have rejected international appeals and have sought support for further arms and mercenaries.
