The Libyan Ambulance Service has declared a state of emergency across all its branches and offices in the southern region, effective from Wednesday.

According to an official statement, all personnel in the southern branches have been placed on high alert. This move aims to ensure readiness in response to potential emergencies in the region.

The announcement was made through a post on the Libyan Ambulance Service’s official Facebook page.

This decision follows a weather warning issued by the National Centre for Meteorology. The centre forecasted continued thunderstorms and heavy rainfall over the far southern areas, particularly those bordering Sudan, Chad, and Niger, including the Tibesti Mountains, Al-Uwaynat, and southern Qatrun.

The centre advised residents in these areas to exercise caution due to the severe weather conditions.

Notably, the Libyan National Army (LNA) has commenced an airlift operation to deliver humanitarian and medical aid to the residents of Kufra and its surrounding areas, following severe flooding caused by heavy rains.

This initiative is in line with the directives issued by the LNA’s Commander-in-Chief, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar. The aid package includes food supplies, medicines, and medical equipment, along with specialized medical teams to provide healthcare to those injured and affected by the floods.

These efforts reflect the LNA’s commitment to supporting the Libyan people during crises and natural disasters.

The flooding in Kufra has resulted in significant damage, prompting immediate intervention by the LNA. The airlift aims to ensure that essential supplies reach the affected areas swiftly, mitigating the impact of the disaster.

The deployment of medical teams is particularly crucial, as they are tasked with addressing urgent healthcare needs and preventing potential outbreaks of disease in the wake of the floods.

The LNA’s initiative underscores the military’s role in disaster response and its dedication to the well-being of citizens across Libya.

This support is part of broader efforts to maintain stability and security in the country, especially in times of crisis. As the situation in Kufra develops, the LNA remains vigilant and prepared to provide further assistance as needed.
