Al-Najjar: NCDC Has No More Authority

The Head of the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Badr Al-Din Al-Najjar, revealed that the centre has been withdrawn from all its authorities, pointing out that its role was now limited to announcing the results of analyses and counting the infections and deaths from Covid-19 as well as monitoring investigation teams.

In a press statement, Al-Najjar said that plans to confront the Coronavirus epidemic as well as guidelines and decisions are now in the hands of the Higher Scientific Advisory Committee.

He indicated that the establishment of branched bodies operating individually and centrally in the Committee, in addition to the absence and marginalisation of the executive arms were the reasons that led to the spread of the virus.

Al-Najjar pointed out that the NCDC is now working with aid provided by external parties, despite the fact that 15 million dollars have been allocated to the centre and not yet spent. He also noted that the analyses made by laboratories and clothes for the monitoring teams are not yet available.
