Hassan Al-Saghir, former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, has lauded the “Reconstruction of the South” conference, marking it as a distinctive and extraordinary event in the history and future of Fezzan. “Some of you may have had the fortune to witness what has been, is, and will be happening through broadcasts, but nothing compares to seeing it firsthand,” Al-Saghir commented on Facebook.
Al-Saghir shared that key Libyan figures including the Speaker of the Libyan Parliament, the Commander of the Libyan Army, and the Prime Minister were all present, hosted by the land and people of Fezzan. The event was also under the auspices and organization of the Head of the Libyan Reconstruction and Development Fund.
“The airport grounds and the halls of Fezzan’s palace were bustling with greetings and celebrations. It was a day of significance, marking a unique and exceptional year in the history and future of Fezzan,” Al-Saghir added. He described a continuous shuttle of decisions, minds, and hands between Benina and Sabha, not for aid or evacuations as in the past, but with a resolute and determined effort to drive decisions and developments.
Al-Saghir highlighted the dynamic involvement of the youth in both organizing and interacting during the event, which stood out as a strong testament to the outcomes achieved. He noted that the educational, scientific, and academic cadres of Fezzan played a visible and influential role both publicly and behind the scenes.
Throughout the years, many conferences and forums have been called under the banner of Fezzan, but Al-Saghir emphasized that this was the first official conference focused on reconstruction and development held in Fezzan by state authorities since Libya’s independence.
In his closing remarks, Al-Saghir pointed out that the attendees, which included representatives from all over Libya, were committed to overcoming obstacles that hinder progress. “This battle is ours now; this war is against those who obstruct our path and halt our progress. Our train has left the station, and those who see it only from the perspectives of Cyrenaica and Fezzan are missing the broader view from Tripoli. These are Libya’s deputies, its army, its government, and its fund, all united on Libyan soil and among the Libyan people,” he declared.
