On Tuesday, the spokesman for the Libyan National Army (LNA), Maj. Gen, Ahmed AlMismari, confirmed that the coming hours will see a major battle between the LNA and the Turkish-backed Government of National Accord (GNA).

In an interview with ‘Al-Hadath’ television channel, Al-Mismari stated that a major battle will commence in the coming hours in the vicinity of Sirte and Al-Jufra, stressing that LNA forces were prepared to defend the cities at all costs.

The spokesman added that the LNA will not begin hostilities, but will deter any attempts to advance towards the cities. He explained that they have taken all necessary measures to thwart any attempt by GNA forces to control the oil rich Al-Hilal region.

Al-Mismari also said that the LNA was protecting the interests of the Libyan people and foreign oil companies that were essential to Libya’s economy. He claimed that the coming fight will not only be between two Libyan parties, but will witness regional and international interference.

He stated that Turkey has antagonized the European Union, Greece, and Egypt over its ambitions in Libya, and runs the risk of plunging the region into chaos.
