The Libyan Society for Hand Surgery is preparing to host the First International Hand Surgery Conference from 12 to 14 October in Benghazi. The event will be held in cooperation with the Federation of Arab Hand Surgery Societies and under the sponsorship of the Prime Ministry of the Parliament-designate government.
The conference aims to promote the exchange of expertise and knowledge between doctors and surgeons specialising in hand surgery from Libya and twenty other countries. Dr. Abdul Rahim Al-Jayar, President of the Benghazi Hand Surgery Association and conference chair, told Al-Anbaa newspaper that the event will provide new doctors with the opportunity to meet some of the most renowned specialists and help shape their interest in exploring new experiences in this field.
The targeted participants for the conference include physicians from various specialties, as well as medical students and interns.
Dr. Al-Jayar mentioned that the conference will cover several key topics, including the treatment of complex hand injuries, diagnosing and treating hand diseases, and addressing congenital and acquired hand deformities. He also highlighted that discussions will focus on the use of stem cells and artificial intelligence in the field, emphasising their significance in hand reconstruction and rehabilitation.
Additionally, the three-day conference will feature exhibitions of the latest prosthetic technologies in hand surgery.
The Libyan Society for Hand Surgery was founded in Benghazi in 2017 and is officially recognised by the National Authority for Scientific Research. It is a member of the Federation of Arab Hand Surgery Societies, which comprises 15 Arab nations, and is also affiliated with the African Hand Surgery Federation.
