Libya’s Acting Minister of Oil and Gas in the Government of National Unity (GNU) Khalifa Abdelsadeq, held discussions with the Turkish Minister of Energy, Alparslan Bayraktar, on enhancing cooperation in various energy sectors. The talks took place on the sidelines of the Gastech 2024 conference in Houston, Texas, held from 17 to 20 September.
According to a statement from the Libyan Ministry of Oil and Gas, the Libyan delegation attended the event following an official invitation from the Mayor of Houston, Christopher Hudson, and DMG Events, the organisers of Gastech. The conference is considered a key platform for the natural gas industry and sustainable technologies, focusing on the challenges of energy security and sustainability.
The statement highlighted the minister’s participation in a ministerial roundtable on “Policy Innovation for Enabling Decarbonisation,” where discussions revolved around overcoming investment challenges to achieve a fair energy transition. This session was seen as crucial in addressing the global energy crisis and fostering international cooperation in sustainable energy development.
On the conference’s sidelines, Minister Abdelsadeq held bilateral meetings with his Turkish counterpart, as well as Geoffrey Pyatt, the US Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources. These discussions focused on exploring cooperation opportunities in the fields of oil, gas, and renewable energy, to deepen Libya’s partnerships and boost its energy sector.
The Gastech conference, in its 52nd edition, continues to be a significant event for global energy leaders, offering insights into the future of the energy market and showcasing the latest innovations in gas and sustainable energy technologies.
