On Monday, Libya’s Minister of Economy and Trade, Mohamed Al-Hwaij, met with the Tunisian Ambassador to Libya, Asaad Ajili, to discuss strengthening the economic partnership between the two countries.

The meeting focused on improving trade relations, facilitating cross-border commerce, and boosting the movement of goods and services through their shared land borders.

With a noticeable uptick in economic activity between Libya and Tunisia, both sides agreed on the importance of streamlining trade procedures and removing obstacles to further enhance commercial exchanges.

A key point of the discussion was the development of a joint framework to support the private sector, encouraging greater collaboration between entrepreneurs and businesses in both nations. By opening up new investment opportunities, they aim to deepen their economic ties and leverage their respective resources and expertise for mutual benefit.

Both parties stressed the need to convene the Joint High-Level Trade Committee, chaired by the prime ministers of Libya and Tunisia, as soon as possible in Tripoli. This meeting will be crucial for advancing bilateral economic and trade cooperation.

The meeting underscored the long-standing economic ties between Libya and Tunisia, which have become even more vital in recent years. Tunisia has been a key trade partner for Libya, particularly during times of political and economic instability. Likewise, Libya remains a major market for Tunisian exports, particularly in the agriculture and industrial sectors.

As both nations seek to strengthen regional economic cooperation, this partnership serves as a model for economic integration in North Africa. With both governments keen to promote private sector development and attract foreign investment, this cooperation is expected to contribute to job creation and economic growth in both countries.

The meeting between Minister Al-Hwaij and Ambassador Ajili reflects the commitment of both nations to deepening their economic ties. The creation of a joint mechanism will help facilitate foreign investments, encourage entrepreneurship, and create job opportunities, benefitting both the Libyan and Tunisian economies.

The upcoming meeting of the Joint High-Level Trade Committee highlights the urgency and importance of these initiatives, as both countries aim to achieve sustainable growth and enhance regional economic stability.
