The Director of Italy’s ITA Airways, Andrea Benassi, announced that arrangements are being coordinated between the Libyan Civil Aviation Authority and the Italian Civil Aviation Authority regarding the resumption of flights by the Italian airline.
A specific date for the resumption of flights will be determined soon.
This announcement came during a meeting held on Wednesday morning between the Libyan Minister of Transport in the Government of National Unity, Mohamed Salem Al-Shahoubi, the Italian Ambassador Gianluca Alberini, the head of the Italian Civil Aviation Authority, the director of ITA Airways, and the Italian Embassy’s commercial attaché.
Minister Al-Shahoubi praised the development of Libyan-Italian relations across various fields and discussed the steps taken regarding the coordination between the two aviation authorities to resume Italian airline flights between the two countries. The head of the Italian Civil Aviation Authority expressed his appreciation for the cooperation aimed at expediting the restart of flights.
In September, the Libyan Government of National Unity officially announced the launch of the first flights from Mitiga International Airport in Tripoli to Rome, after nearly ten years of suspension due to the European ban on Libyan aviation.
An Italian delegation conducted a comprehensive tour of Mitiga International Airport, reviewing the safety and security measures in place to ensure the safe operation of flights.
The European Commission imposed a ban in 2014 on Libyan airlines operating in EU airspace due to safety concerns stemming from ongoing security issues in Libya.
