The Head of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Mnifi, and Council Member, Abdullah al-Lafi, met today with a delegation from the African Union, led by its current chairperson and President of Mauritania, Mohamed Ould Cheikh Ghazouani.
During the meeting, they discussed the progress made since the launch of the national reconciliation process, the challenges it faces, and ways to overcome them.
The meeting was attended by African Union Commission Chairperson Moussa Faki, and Jean-Claude Gakosso, Congo Brazzaville’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Special Representative to the President.
According to the Libyan Presidential Council, the meeting reinforced the African Union’s commitment to the path of national reconciliation, as well as Libya’s unity, sovereignty, and stability, in the face of external interference.
Al-Mnifi praised the significance of the meeting and its message of Africa’s dedication to helping Libya overcome its current challenges. He emphasized Libya’s deep-rooted ties to the African continent.
Al-Mnifi reaffirmed that the Presidential Council is not a party to the conflict in Libya and maintains contact with all factions.
He stressed that no group will be excluded from the reconciliation process, highlighting the Council’s commitment to a national partnership and locally owned solutions.
He welcomed the African Union’s initiative to hold a meeting of the Libyan reconciliation parties in Addis Ababa.
