On Monday, the first general session of the Arab Parliament’s inaugural term was held at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo, chaired by Arab Parliament President Mohammed Ahmed Al-Yamahi, with Libya taking part.
Representing Libya, members of the Libyan House of Representatives who serve in the Arab Parliament included Hassan Al-Taher Al-Bargouthi, Abu Salah Shalabi, Abdul-Salam Nasia, and Ahlam Al-Lafi.
The session addressed key Arab issues, most notably the Palestinian cause, and denounced the ongoing attacks on Gaza and Lebanon.
The Arab Parliament highlighted the humanitarian crisis, condemning what it described as mass genocide and forced displacement over the past year, constituting one of history’s gravest humanitarian crimes.
The Arab Parliament firmly opposed any efforts to forcibly displace Palestinians from the West Bank, including Jerusalem, and from Gaza.
It called for an end to forced displacement and all forms of internal displacement, which it stated violate international law.
The parliament also urged for the safe return of Gaza residents to their homes, from which they have been uprooted due to the conflict.
In a show of solidarity, the Arab Parliament unanimously adopted a draft resolution presented by the Palestine Committee, titled “Developments in the Palestinian Cause and the Situation in the Occupied Territories.”
