The Director General of Libya’s Reconstruction and Development Fund, Belgassim Haftar, met with Turkey’s Ambassador to Libya, Güven Begeç, to strengthen cooperation in infrastructure and development initiatives.
The talks included a significant focus on the potential return of Turkish companies to resume work on halted projects, which have been delayed for over 12 years.
During the discussions, both parties explored ways to leverage Turkish expertise in areas such as infrastructure, engineering consultancy, and construction.
The goal is to utilise these capabilities to meet Libya’s strategic objectives for municipal development and comprehensive reconstruction, ensuring that projects extend to all municipalities across Libya.
The meeting also reviewed steps to facilitate the reopening of the Turkish Consulate General in Benghazi, which would signal a strengthening of diplomatic ties and operational ease for Turkish entities in the region.
Additionally, plans were discussed for Turkish Airlines to resume flights to and from Benghazi’s Benina International Airport in the near future, potentially enhancing travel and economic exchange between the two nations.
The Libyan Development Fund expressed its enthusiasm for renewed partnerships with Turkish firms, noting that their specialised skills could be invaluable for Libya’s current infrastructure needs.
The Fund also underscored the commitment of Libya’s leadership to ensuring the highest international standards in project execution, promoting an investor-friendly environment, and encouraging foreign participation in rebuilding efforts.
These discussions mark a step forward in Libya’s aim to achieve sustainable development, positioning Turkish companies as a potential cornerstone of the country’s rebuilding strategy.
The proposed collaborations are expected to significantly contribute to Libya’s economic recovery and infrastructure modernisation.
