The Libyan National Oil Corporation (NOC) announced that Greek company METKA presented a technical proposal on energy transition during a recent meeting held at the corporation’s headquarters.
In a statement on Friday, the NOC highlighted METKA’s extensive experience in renewable energy projects, including solar and wind energy sources. The company also showcased the percentage of energy generated from these sources in various countries worldwide.
The meeting explored technical and scientific aspects of implementing renewable energy projects, focusing on their potential application in Libya’s oil fields and operational sites.
The NOC emphasised that the discussion aligns with its commitment to advancing alternative energy solutions and evaluating viable options to enhance sustainability in the oil sector.
This initiative reflects the corporation’s growing interest in diversifying energy sources while reducing reliance on traditional fossil fuels.
Libya has been in chaos since a NATO-backed uprising toppled longtime leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011. The county has for years been split between rival administrations.
Libya’s economy, heavily reliant on oil, has suffered due to the ongoing conflict. The instability has led to fluctuations in oil production and prices, impacting the global oil market and Libya’s economy.
