Libya’s Passports, Nationality, and Foreigners Affairs Authority has announced plans to introduce electronic work visas for foreign nationals by the end of 2024.

This development follows a meeting chaired by Ali Al-Abed, Minister of Labour and Rehabilitation in the outgoing Government of National Unity, alongside Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Adel Jumaa. The meeting also included the head of the Passports and Nationality Authority, security agencies, and the Libyan Telecommunications Holding Company.

The discussions focused on finalising the technical aspects of integrating the “Wafid” system with the electronic visa system. This move is part of the government’s efforts to enhance the regulation and monitoring of foreign nationals’ entry and presence in Libya.

The head of the Passports and Nationality Authority stated that work is progressing rapidly in coordination with the Ministry of Labour, the Telecommunications Holding Company, and security agencies. The initiative aims to issue electronic work visas based on permits processed through the “Wafid” system.

This project reflects the government’s commitment to modernising visa processes and improving the management of foreign labour entry into Libya, ensuring compliance with national regulations.
