On Saturday, Libya’s Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ageela Saleh, met with Abdulhadi Al-Hwaij, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for the parliament-appointed government, to address key issues concerning Libya’s foreign investments and consular services for its citizens.
The meeting took place in Al-Qubbah and was also attended by Jibril Buqreida, the Director of Consular Affairs.
Discussions centered on ensuring better consular support for Libyan citizens abroad, a reflection of the government’s commitment to enhancing public services.
A significant part of the conversation focused on preserving Libya’s investments abroad, which represent a critical economic asset. Saleh emphasized the importance of safeguarding these resources to support Libya’s economic recovery and ensure long-term benefits for its citizens.
The two leaders also discussed Libya’s ongoing political challenges and stressed the need for stronger cooperation between state institutions to stabilize the country. Saleh expressed full support for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs efforts to strengthen Libya’s diplomatic presence internationally and foster closer relationships with regional and global partners.
Another key topic was the urgent revision of Law No. 2 of 2001, which governs the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The proposed amendments aim to ensure fairness for ministry employees and adapt its structure to better meet current diplomatic and consular needs. Both parties agreed that these reforms are essential for modernizing Libya’s foreign policy framework and aligning it with international standards.
This meeting highlights the Libyan government’s efforts to address pressing domestic and international issues while navigating a challenging political landscape. Strengthening foreign investments and improving diplomatic services are seen as vital steps toward stabilizing the country, rebuilding trust, and enhancing Libya’s global standing.
