Amid increasing displacement caused by the ongoing conflict in Sudan, the border city of Kufra has become a vital entry point for Sudanese refugees into Libya. According to Amin Karam Al-Din, the Sudanese community coordinator in Kufra, the city has demonstrated remarkable solidarity with displaced individuals despite limited resources.

During an appearance on the program Tonight’s Dialogue, aired on Libya Al-Ahrar TV and reported by Al-Marsad, Karam Al-Din praised the residents of Kufra for their unwavering support in sharing resources and assisting refugees.

Karam Al-Din highlighted significant aid efforts led by the Libyan National Army (LNA) under Commander-in-Chief Khalifa Haftar. The LNA sent 55 trucks loaded with essential supplies, including food, clothing, mattresses, and blankets, which were distributed regularly among refugees. While these efforts have filled critical gaps, the increasing number of displaced individuals calls for more robust and sustained support.

As winter sets in, the needs of refugees grow more pressing. Karam Al-Din stressed the urgent need for clothing, food, and medicine, urging humanitarian organizations to scale up their efforts, particularly for families headed by single mothers, who comprise 30% of the refugee population.

The coordinator noted strides in integrating refugee children into the education system, with a dedicated school established for them. In healthcare, mobile clinics and emergency medical teams have been instrumental in providing free treatment and maternity services for refugees.

Karam Al-Din commended Libyan government directives that have eased residency and work procedures for displaced individuals, including issuing free health certificates. He expressed gratitude for Kufra’s hospitality, describing it as a testament to the generosity and solidarity of the Libyan people.

In a closing appeal, Karam Al-Din urged international humanitarian organizations to fulfill their obligations and extend further support to Sudanese refugees. He emphasized that Libya, particularly the city of Kufra, has been one of the most welcoming destinations for displaced Sudanese since the start of the crisis.
