Libyan Parliament Condemns Trump’s Remarks on Gaza

The Libyan House of Representatives’ Foreign Affairs Committee has strongly condemned recent remarks by former U.S. President Donald Trump, in which he suggested the displacement of Gaza’s population to neighbouring countries.

In a statement released on Friday, the committee rejected Trump’s comments, calling them a blatant violation of international treaties and human rights. It stressed that any forced displacement of Palestinians constitutes a serious humanitarian crime and contradicts global legal conventions.

The committee reiterated its support for the Palestinian people’s right to return to their homeland, highlighting the ongoing suffering caused by what it described as a campaign of genocide against civilians in Gaza. It emphasised that Israeli military actions have indiscriminately targeted men, women, children, and the elderly.

According to the statement, such remarks from a former U.S. leader do not contribute to de-escalation efforts or the resolution of the crisis. Instead, the committee argued, they demonstrate clear bias and disregard for Palestinian rights. The proposed displacement, it said, would amount to a crime against humanity.

The Libyan parliamentary committee urged the international community to enforce UN resolutions supporting Palestinian statehood and to take concrete steps toward establishing an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.

This condemnation follows a separate statement on Thursday from the Libyan Parliament-designate government, led by Prime Minister Osama Hammad, which also rejected any attempts to forcibly relocate Palestinians. The government called for a sustained ceasefire and the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

The Libyan stance aligns with broader regional and international opposition to displacement plans, with Arab nations, the European Union, and global organisations voicing strong objections to any forced migration of Palestinians.
