On Thursday, at the Libyan Center for Biotechnology Research in Tripoli, the Libyan Olive Oil Laboratory was inaugurated. This facility is the first in Libya to receive international accreditation from the International Olive Council. The opening coincides with the certification of Libya’s first team for sensory evaluation and chemical analysis by the International Olive Council in Spain for the 2024-2025 period. Furthermore, Libya has gained the presidency of the current session of the International Olive Council for the year 2025.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by the General Director of the Export Development Center, Mohammed Ali Al-Dib, and the Director of the Libyan Center for Biotechnology Research, Adam Ibrahim Al-Zghid. The laboratory director, Dr. Adel Mukhtar Al-Maghribi, along with the Director of Administrative and Financial Affairs for the Olive Oil Development and Improvement Project, were also present along with directors and staff from the Export Development Center and the Libyan Center for Biotechnology Research.
This internationally accredited laboratory will provide significant services to farmers and major companies in the olive oil pressing and packaging industry, ending the struggles of seeking sample accreditation abroad and the associated costs, time, and effort.
Mohammed Al-Dib, Director of the Export Development Center, affirmed his full support for this institution that directly serves Libyan olive oil exports. He commended the efforts made to achieve this accomplishment and stated that the Export Development Center has been and continues to be supportive of initiatives that develop and enhance exports to reach global markets. He also encouraged the staff to maintain the laboratory’s capabilities and to actively participate in keeping pace with advancements in the field.
