Egyptian FM Stresses Cairo’s Support for a Political Solution in Libya

On Friday, Sameh Shoukry, the Egyptian Foreign Minister discussed in a telephone call with UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, the situation in Libya. In the phone call, Shoukry stressed Cairo’s adherence to a peaceful solution in Libya away from foreign interference.

In a statement, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said that Shoukry reviewed Egypt’s clear and supportive stance for a Libyan-Libyan political solution, which is devoid from any foreign interference that seeks to dominate the resources of the Libyan people.

Shoukry affirmed Egypt’s keenness to maintain regular and frequent coordination with the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), in a way that pushes the political solution forward according to the Cairo Declaration and which reaches such a solution within the framework of the Berlin Conference’s outputs.

The Egyptian Minister also stressed the important role of the United Nations in the Libyan crisis, calling for the cooperation of all countries within it, in order to achieve the objectives of the Libyan people and their legitimate aspirations.
