A total of 1,760 Sudanese refugees in eastern Libya have received essential humanitarian assistance, according to relief organisations. The aid distribution took place in the cities of Derna and Al-Qubba, targeting families who fled the ongoing war in Sudan.
Over the past week, 387 refugee families received blankets, mattresses, solar lamps, and hygiene kits to help them cope with the difficult living conditions. The initiative was carried out by the Libyan Relief and Humanitarian Aid Authority, with support from international donors, including Austria, the European Union, and Italy.
The humanitarian situation for Sudanese refugees in Libya remains challenging, with thousands seeking safety amid Libya’s fragile security conditions. Many of these refugees are living in temporary shelters with limited access to basic services.
According to recent data from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the number of Sudanese refugees in Libya has surpassed 240,000, with around 500 people crossing into the country daily. Humanitarian agencies continue to call for increased international support to address the growing needs of displaced populations.
Libyan authorities and aid organisations are working to expand relief efforts, but logistical challenges and security concerns often slow down the delivery of assistance. Local humanitarian groups stress the importance of sustained international cooperation to ensure adequate support for refugees and asylum seekers in Libya.
