In a recent meeting aimed at enhancing Maghreb collaboration in electoral matters, Imad al-Sayah, the head of Libya’s High National Elections Commission, met with Farouk Bouasker, the president of Tunisia’s Independent High Authority for Elections.
The meeting, which was attended by Tariq bin Salem, the Secretary-General of the Arab Maghreb Union, and Haj Senussi Rajab al-Baraasi, the General Coordinator of the Libya Elders Foundation, focused on fostering cooperation among electoral bodies across the Maghreb region. This initiative is supported and coordinated by the Arab Maghreb Union.
Also in attendance were Hatem El-Gamari, advisor at the General Secretariat of the Arab Maghreb Union, and Tarek El-Saadi, Director of the Office of the President of the High Authority for Elections.
The discussions centered on ways to enhance electoral cooperation by establishing a joint framework that would allow for the exchange of experiences and best practices through workshops and joint training sessions. This framework aims to standardize electoral procedures and practices across the region.
In this context, the upcoming Libyan electoral experience was highlighted, underscoring the importance of supporting this electoral path by leveraging shared experiences from neighboring countries.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to continue efforts to provide suitable conditions for establishing an institutional framework for cooperation among Maghreb electoral bodies, under the supervision and approval of the Arab Maghreb Union. This agreement is set to enhance regional cooperation and contribute to the development of electoral work in the area.
