Libyan Parliament member Abdel-Moneim Al-Arfi described the recent statement by members of Libya’s House of Representatives (HoR) and the High Council of State (HCS), following their meeting in Cairo, as “balanced,” considering it a comprehensive roadmap for Libya’s political future.
Speaking to Al-Raed Network, Al-Arfi noted that discussions during the Cairo meeting primarily focused on overcoming Libya’s political stalemate. Participants proposed a roadmap aimed at paving the way toward national elections, establishing a unified executive authority, and consolidating divided national institutions.
The meeting brought together 96 members from Libya’s House of Representatives and 73 from the High Council of State. They agreed on activating the outcomes of the trilateral meeting previously hosted in Cairo on March 10, 2024, under the auspices of the Arab League, which emphasized the restructuring of Libya’s executive authority.
Delegates stressed the importance of Libyan sovereignty over political processes, ensuring they remain within official national institutions. They underscored the necessity of ongoing collaboration between the HoR and HCS through regular joint meetings.
Additionally, the critical role of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) was highlighted, emphasizing its adherence strictly to the mandate of supporting Libyan institutions in line with the political agreement.
Participants concluded by agreeing to hold the subsequent meeting within Libya to finalize necessary measures to implement their consensus effectively.
