The US Embassy in Libya announced on Wednesday that American forces had carried out an “aerial activity” in Libya. The operation was described as part of efforts to strengthen military integration between eastern and western Libya, though no further details were provided.
According to the embassy’s statement, the aerial operation aimed to enhance air defence capabilities and air traffic monitoring in Libya. It was also described as a significant step towards unifying Libya’s military institutions.
The US underscored its commitment to Libya’s stability and unity, calling the event a demonstration of ongoing cooperation between the two nations.
The embassy highlighted the partnership between Libya and the United States in defence matters, noting that Libyan partners from various regions had collaborated with the US in this initiative.
This development follows a visit by Lieutenant General John Brennan, the Deputy Commander of U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM), to Libya between 3 and 6 February. His discussions focused on unifying Libya’s military institutions and strengthening security cooperation between the two countries.
The US has maintained an active role in Libya’s security sector, working with Libyan factions to stabilise the country amid ongoing political divisions. While specific details of the aerial operation remain undisclosed, it signals Washington’s continued engagement in Libya’s security landscape.
