Belarus has pledged to provide Libya with advanced mining technologies, alongside innovations in agriculture and industry, as part of a growing partnership between the two countries. The announcement was made during a high-level visit to Benghazi by a Belarusian delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Karankevich.

According to Belarusian state news agency BelTA, Karankevich stated on Wednesday that Belarus and Libya are working to identify key sectors for rapid cooperation. “We are defining areas of work and setting primary objectives to be achieved swiftly, including in mining, agriculture, food security, safety, training, and emergency response,” he said.

Karankevich added that both parties are drafting a roadmap to guide future collaboration, with clearly defined responsibilities for the organisations involved. “Over the coming weeks, we will work diligently to establish operating frameworks, which may include potential contracts,” he explained.

During the visit, Belarus and the eastern-based Libyan government, led by Prime Minister Osama Hammad, signed several memoranda of understanding. These agreements cover a wide range of sectors, including agriculture, food security, industry, health, geological exploration, education, and human resource development.

The two sides also reached an understanding on security cooperation. This includes maintaining public order, disaster prevention, and exchanging expertise in disaster risk management and emergency response. Belarus has offered to provide training programmes and supply specialised equipment to enhance Libya’s capacity in these areas.

Additionally, both governments agreed to establish a joint contact group. This body will coordinate ongoing cooperation and oversee the implementation of the agreements signed during the visit.

This partnership signals Belarus’s interest in deepening ties with Libya, particularly in sectors crucial for Libya’s reconstruction and economic recovery.
