On Saturday, Libya’s Prime Minister of the Government-designate, Osama Hammad, along with the Director-General of the Reconstruction and Development Fund, Belgassim Haftar, conducted a field inspection to review the progress of several major infrastructure projects in the Green Mountain region and Wadi Al-Kouf.
The tour covered many points along the coastal road between Marj and Al-Bayda, where work is underway on the maintenance of roads, the construction of bridges and culverts, and the expansion of both existing and new traffic lanes.
The projects are part of a broader national effort to modernize Libya’s infrastructure and improve transportation links in the eastern region.
According to the government’s media office, Hammad and Haftar visited the old Wadi Al-Kouf road, where development work includes installing new rainwater drainage systems and expanding roads leading to the surrounding mountain towns. The inspection also included sites in New Al-Bayda, where new bridges are being built to support growing urban traffic and ease regional connectivity.
During the visit, the two officials were briefed on the progress made so far, with engineers outlining the completion rates and technical adjustments being made to accommodate the region’s challenging weather conditions. The projects are being executed in line with strict construction standards to ensure long-term durability, especially in response to seasonal floods and heavy rainfall common in the area.
Hammad emphasized the importance of building infrastructure that not only meets current needs but also withstands environmental pressures. The development of roads and bridges in the Green Mountain region is seen as a critical step in reconnecting communities, supporting economic growth, and delivering on the government’s reconstruction priorities.
In addition to the technical briefings, Hammad and Haftar met with a number of local residents during their visit. Citizens expressed their appreciation for the government’s direct oversight of development efforts and praised the leadership’s responsiveness to local concerns.
This inspection tour reflects the ongoing push by Libya’s government-designate to fast-track public works and ensure infrastructure projects are aligned with both technical standards and community needs.
