On Monday, the Acting Director-General of Libya’s Customs Authority held an official meeting with the Director-General of Tunisia’s Customs Administration to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral customs cooperation and improve the movement of goods and people across the Libya–Tunisia border.
The meeting took place at the headquarters of the Libyan Customs Authority in Tripoli, where the Tunisian delegation was received with an official ceremony and attended by senior Libyan customs officers and administrative officials.
According to a statement released by the Libyan Customs Authority, the session built upon earlier discussions between both sides aimed at deepening cooperation in customs management and addressing shared border challenges.
The talks focused on facilitating the movement of goods and passengers, streamlining inspection procedures, and eliminating obstacles that hinder trade and travel between the two neighboring countries.
Both delegations emphasized the importance of removing technical and logistical barriers that affect citizens and residents living near the border, with the goal of making cross-border transit more efficient, safe, and transparent. The discussions also included proposals to develop joint customs protocols and enhance real-time coordination between Libyan and Tunisian border authorities.
In addition to operational improvements, the two sides examined possibilities for broader economic integration through customs cooperation. They discussed practical agreements that could help harmonize regulations, support mutual economic interests, and encourage long-term collaboration between the two countries’ institutions.
Both parties agreed to continue working toward a more unified customs framework that aligns with international standards and meets the needs of traders, travelers, and border communities on both sides.
