On Sunday, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Government of National Unity, Taher Al-Baour, received the Italian Ambassador to Libya, Gianluca Alberini, in Tripoli for talks focused on strengthening cooperation between the two countries across various sectors.

According to a statement from the Libyan Foreign Ministry, the meeting addressed ways to deepen bilateral ties and reviewed several shared political, economic, and regional issues. Both sides emphasized the importance of sustained consultation and coordination to advance mutual interests and support stability and development in Libya and the broader region.

The talks come in the context of continued diplomatic engagement between the two nations. On January 12, Al-Baour had also met with Riccardo Guariglia, Secretary General of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during the official ceremony marking the resumption of direct flights between Rome and Tripoli after more than a decade-long suspension.

During that visit, both sides expressed their shared desire to enhance political, economic, and strategic cooperation. Secretary General Guariglia reaffirmed Italy’s strong interest in developing ties with Libya, describing the country as a key strategic partner with whom Italy shares significant political and economic connections.

Libya and Italy have maintained a long-standing partnership, particularly in areas of trade, energy, migration, and regional security. Both governments reiterated their intention to bolster collaboration on shared priorities, including infrastructure, investment, and institutional development, while contributing to regional peace and stability.
