The Secretary-General of the Libyan National Army (LNA), Lieutenant General Khairy Al-Tamimi, welcomed the new Turkish Consul in Benghazi, Serkan Karmenlioglu, during an official meeting at the LNA headquarters in Benghazi.
The meeting covered several topics of mutual interest, aimed at strengthening cooperation between Libya and Turkey across various sectors. Both sides emphasised the importance of enhancing bilateral relations and working towards common goals that serve the shared interests of both nations.
According to official statements, discussions focused on opening new avenues of collaboration, particularly in areas related to economic development, security coordination, and cultural exchange. The meeting also highlighted the necessity of maintaining open channels of communication between Libyan and Turkish institutions.
The visit of Consul Karmenlioglu marks a significant step in efforts to improve diplomatic ties between Libya and Turkey, especially in eastern Libya, where political and security dynamics have often differed from those in the western region.
Observers note that Turkey’s increased diplomatic presence in Benghazi could signal a broader intention to engage with all parts of Libya, not just with authorities in Tripoli. Strengthening dialogue with the Libyan National Army could contribute to easing tensions and promoting national reconciliation efforts.
Both Libya and Turkey have expressed willingness to develop more stable and constructive relations, recognising the mutual benefits that enhanced cooperation could bring to sectors such as trade, energy, education, and reconstruction.
The meeting concluded with both parties reaffirming their commitment to continuous dialogue and mutual respect, paving the way for a new chapter in Libyan-Turkish relations.
This development comes as Libya seeks to stabilise its political scene and rebuild its international partnerships after years of conflict and division.
