The Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in the Eastern-based Government has issued a statement addressing recent tensions along the Libyan-Sudanese border. This follows a communiqué from Sudan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, dated 10 June 2025, which raised concerns over border incidents.

In its response, the Libyan ministry reaffirmed that safeguarding Libya’s sovereignty and national security remains a fundamental principle, not subject to compromise. It stressed the government’s duty to uphold these values through legitimate means, in line with its national responsibility to the Libyan people.

The statement highlighted Libya’s commitment to international law and the United Nations Charter. It also underlined Libya’s dedication to respecting neighbouring states’ sovereignty and maintaining regional stability. The ministry expressed regret over what it described as “claims and insinuations” in Sudan’s statement, noting that such rhetoric risks increasing tensions.

Libya reiterated its preference for peaceful dialogue and regional consultations to resolve disputes, aiming to preserve mutual interests and regional harmony. The ministry emphasised Libya’s humanitarian efforts, especially in southern cities such as Kufra, where hundreds of thousands of Sudanese refugees have been sheltered and provided with health and humanitarian services.

The government clarified it has not participated in the Sudanese conflict in any form. It reaffirmed its support for Sudan’s unity and called for an end to the war through dialogue, to build a secure and stable Sudan for its people and neighbours.

Finally, Libya stressed that protecting its borders and national security is a sacred duty for its armed forces, and any compromise to its sovereignty would be unacceptable.
