Jamal Benchekroun, a Moroccan Parliament Member, said that the Libyan conflict is related to the Maghreb democratic movement that the region has known for long. He noted that it has taken other negative directions and that the Moroccan intervention is a positive intervention.

In statements to the Russian agency “Sputnik”, Benchekroun indicated that Morocco is not seeking any political exploitation, pointing out that Moroccan efforts are working to enhance security and stability in the Maghreb as a whole. He also noted that Rabat considers the Libyan issue as part of Maghreb Union.

He also confirmed that Morocco sees the Algerian moves coming at the expense of the Moroccan role. “Algeria plays its role in the region, but it always seeks to oppose Morocco’s interests and jump over the files to appear stronger,” he said.

The Moroccan MP believed that the issue here does not need a show of leadership but deserves strong efforts to limit the destruction of the Libyan people and the exploitation of their oil resources.
