Chairman of the Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Committee of the Libyan House of Representatives, Yousef Al-Agouri, held a meeting with Naima Al-Areebi, Vice President of the National Council for Public Liberties and Human Rights, to discuss the issue of Libyan youths imprisoned in Italy and explore ways to enhance joint cooperation on human rights.

The meeting, held at the Parliament’s office in Benghazi, focused on several pressing issues, most notably the case of Libyan nationals detained in Italian prisons. Al-Agouri affirmed that the Foreign Affairs Committee is closely following the matter and is committed to securing a resolution.

The two sides also discussed expanding international cooperation to promote human rights by launching joint capacity-building programs and drawing from international expertise in the legal and human rights fields.

Al-Areebi expressed the National Council’s readiness to contribute to reviewing and amending related national laws to ensure alignment with international standards.

At the end of the meeting, both parties agreed to establish a joint framework for future cooperation, enabling the National Council to play a greater role in monitoring the human rights situation and highlighting Libya’s commitments to international human rights treaties.
