On Sunday, a delegation from Libya’s Ministry of Health conducted a comprehensive field visit across the southwest of the country to assess the condition of healthcare services and medical infrastructure in the region.

The inspection tour covered more than a dozen health facilities and was aimed at identifying urgent needs, improving service delivery, and preparing a roadmap for reconstruction and development.

The visit included hospitals and medical centers in Ghat, Ubari, Sabha, Brak, Bint Bayyah, Al-Gharifa, Al-Barakat, Al-Awainat, and other towns.

Facilities visited included Ghat General Hospital, the Ghat Kidney Center, Al-Barakat Rural Hospital, Tahala Health Center, Al-Awainat General Hospital, Ubari General Hospital, Al-Mashrouh Health Center, Bint Bayyah General Hospital, Sabha Trauma Center, Sabha Medical Center, Brak General Hospital, Borgan General Hospital, and Idri Rural Hospital.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Health, the purpose of the tour was to assess the actual state of each facility, including medical staff levels, equipment shortages, infrastructure conditions, and service capacity.

The findings will inform a short-term action plan and feed into a broader strategy coordinated with the Libyan Reconstruction and Development Fund.

The ministry confirmed that a rapid response plan will be drafted to address the most pressing challenges uncovered during the visit. This includes implementing practical solutions to fill gaps in medical supplies, repair damaged infrastructure, and ensure staffing shortages are addressed. Local needs will be documented in detail, and actionable steps will be taken to meet them.

Officials stressed that these efforts are part of the government’s wider plan to ensure healthcare equity across all regions of Libya, especially those affected by neglect and conflict. The move is also a signal of renewed national focus on southern Libya, an area long underserved in terms of healthcare and basic public services.

The Ministry affirmed its commitment to following up with concrete actions that respond directly to citizens’ needs and restore confidence in the national healthcare system.
