The President of Libya’s Audit Bureau, Khaled Shakshak, held talks with the Chargé d’Affaires of the British Embassy in Tripoli, Ben, to explore ways of strengthening institutional cooperation and oversight practices. The meeting focused on reinforcing partnerships between Libya’s Audit Bureau and the UK’s National Audit Office (NAO).

Discussions centred on the importance of aligning Libya’s auditing mechanisms with international standards. Both sides underlined the need to modernise oversight frameworks to boost efficiency, transparency, and accountability in public financial management. By sharing expertise and technical know-how, the partnership aims to raise institutional performance and ensure better protection of public funds.

A key element of the talks was enhancing training programmes and capacity-building initiatives. The Audit Bureau stressed its commitment to expanding the technical capabilities of its staff, while the UK side highlighted the experience of the NAO as a valuable model for developing Libya’s auditing sector. Opportunities for joint workshops, exchange visits, and tailored training courses were also discussed.

The meeting reaffirmed the Audit Bureau’s central role in safeguarding financial integrity and promoting good governance in Libya. The British diplomat commended ongoing efforts to strengthen transparency and accountability, emphasising the UK’s readiness to support joint initiatives. Both parties agreed that cooperation between oversight institutions could reinforce public trust and contribute to long-term institutional stability.

Looking ahead, the Audit Bureau and the UK Embassy expressed a shared commitment to deepening collaboration. The partnership with the NAO is expected to create a stronger platform for reform, oversight innovation, and the adoption of best practices that align with Libya’s development goals.
