The High National Elections Commission (HNEC) of Libya convened a high-level meeting on Monday to review preparations for the third round of municipal council elections.
Chaired by HNEC Chairman Emad Al-Sayeh, the session focused on evaluating technical and logistical readiness to ensure the elections are held on schedule and in accordance with the highest standards of transparency and professionalism.
During the meeting, the Commission reviewed the electoral timeline, including key stages such as the opening of the voter registry for registration and updates, the launch of candidate registration, and the identification of necessary resources and technical requirements to guarantee a smooth and credible process.
Al-Sayeh emphasized the importance of full coordination among departments and administrative units, underlining that successful implementation depends on collective efforts. He reaffirmed HNEC’s commitment to transparency, professionalism, and reinforcing public trust in the electoral process.
The meeting forms part of the Commission’s regular follow-up on administrative and technical readiness for Libya’s ongoing electoral commitments. It also highlights the Commission’s continued effort to strengthen institutional capacity and maintain momentum toward inclusive and democratic governance at the local level.
Present at the meeting were council members Abu Bakr Marda and Abdelhakim Al-Shuab, as well as directors of the Commission’s technical departments and planning sections. Discussions focused on ensuring that each step of the electoral process—particularly voter registration and candidate nominations—meets clear legal, operational, and procedural standards.
The third group of municipal elections represents a key phase in Libya’s plan to renew local governance structures across the country. The elections are expected to take place in municipalities that have not yet held recent local votes. Final dates for registration and voting will be announced in the coming weeks as preparations move forward.
The Commission reiterated its readiness to cooperate with relevant authorities and stakeholders to implement the elections within their designated timeline.
